KMBC NEWS: Respect Missouri Voters gathers signatures to protect citizen petition process

A grassroots group is pushing back against Missouri lawmakers’ efforts to tighten rules for citizen-led petitions, saying the process is under threat.

Volunteers with Respect Missouri Voters gathered signatures Thursday to support a proposed constitutional amendment aimed at protecting the initiative petition process.

“This one seemed especially important,” volunteer Damon Atherly said. “The legislature doesn’t want to follow the will of the electorate, and that’s a direct threat to democracy.”
