Jefferson City, MO – Today, the Yes on 6 campaign released its first television ad featuring former Missouri Republican State Sen. Bob Johnson and his endorsement for a “yes” vote on Amendment 6. In the ad, Sen. Johnson says, “When the people of Missouri pass a citizen-led initiative, the results should not be overturned by politicians.”
He emphasizes, “This isn't about Republicans or Democrats, it’s about honoring the will of the people. When a citizen-led initiative passes, the results should stand, period. Join me and vote yes on Amendment Six.”
The ad will begin running today across television markets in Kansas City, St. Louis, Columbia, and Springfield.
Sen. Johnson joins the endorsements of former U.S. Senator Jack Danforth and former Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander, and the Missouri AFL-CIO, which represents over 220,000 Missourians in trade unions across the state.
Former State Sen. Bob Johnson (R-Lee’s Summit) served 23 years in the Missouri General Assembly, representing his community in both the Missouri House and Senate. First elected to the House in 1972, Johnson later served 15 years in the Senate before returning to the House in the early 2000s. His public service also includes 16 years on the Lee’s Summit City Council and service on the Lee’s Summit R-7 Board of Education, totaling more than four decades in elected office.
Amendment 6 would establish additional restrictions on legislative changes to voter-approved initiatives and require ballot summaries to meet standards including fairness and impartiality. The certified ballot language states that legislative changes to voter-approved initiatives would generally require approval from 80 percent of both chambers before it would go back to the ballot.
This ad follows the Yes on 6 campaign’s release of its first digital ad explaining the amendment, both ads can be found on the campaign’s website here.
Missourians will vote on Amendment 6 on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026. The voter registration deadline is Oct. 7, and no-excuse early voting begins Oct. 20.
