Siren on Missouri state outline with text - Breaking: We Need Everyone to Defeat Amendment 4 in August |
|
|
On Friday, Governor Kehoe officially placed Amendment 4 on our August 4 primary ballot. Make no mistake: our century-old citizen initiative process—our direct voice in Missouri—is under immediate attack.
This is a radical rewrite of our state's voting rules. Instead of a true statewide majority, Amendment 4 demands a victory in EVERY single congressional district for citizen initiatives. If it fails in just one district, the entire state is vetoed. Yet, politician-sponsored amendments are completely exempt and would still pass with a simple majority.
Politicians wrote it. Politicians exempted themselves from it.
We MUST defeat Amendment 4 in August to defend our constitutional freedoms and clear our path to win the Respect Missouri Voters Amendment this November.
To lead this fight, we are launching a statewide "VOTE NO" field campaign on June 13. We have less than three weeks to scale up. There is a place for you on the front lines. Let's win this together! |

In a recent article, the Kansas City Star described Amendment 4 as "the most expansive attempt to weaken the [citizen initiative] process in recent memory." If passed in August, Amendment 4 would make it virtually impossible for citizen-led amendments to pass the ballot.
With the Respect Missouri Voters amendment slotted for the November ballot, this means that if Amendment 4 passes in August, we'll need to win a majority in all eight congressional districts to go into effect. That's why it's so important for us to defeat Amendment 4 to clear a path to victory for Respect Missouri Voters and for direct democracy. We'll work together to make sure Missouri citizens understand how Amendment 4 impacts them, so it doesn't win in August. |

For Ruth Knittel, Respect MO Voters is not her first rodeo. She's knocked on doors for candidates and many other causes, and knows a thing or two about honing her "elevator pitch."
"I worked hard on getting it down to as few words as possible," she says. It must have worked: she snagged 1,181 signatures! It's a good thing we have Ruth in our camp as we gear up to defeat Amendment 4 on August 4.
Go Ruth, go! |
